1. If the doctor is in your Isapre's network, you must FIRST go to the Isapre and tell them you have made an appointment with a doctor. They will ask for his name, address, and RUT (national ID) number. They will then print you a "bono" (roughly translated, a bond) which you will present at the doctor's office as payment. No further payment will normally be required unless his normal fee is over the maximum co-pay benefit you selected.
2. If the doctor is NOT in your Isapre's network, be sure to get a receipt for your visit (you must pay at the time of the consultation). Bring the receipt to any branch of the Isapre and they will reimburse you up to the maximum amount of your selected co-pay on your policy.
Since this system is novel to Americans, they often get confused and/or frustrated by the procedures in Chile. When in doubt about whether your doctor is in the network, go to your Isapre's office first and check. Not getting the bono prior to going to the doctor who is in the network can cause a real problem and you might not get some or all of your reimbursement.
