Snowfall in Santiago

On August 18, 2011 it actually snowed in northeastern Santiago. A few inches fell and stuck. Even Providencia and other parts of lower-elevation Santiago had snow. The snowfall was so rare that no one I spoke to could remember there being a snowfall in Santiago itself. The mountain scenery was beautiful, as the photographs below show. Kids were making snowmen on the grass. Palm trees were seen coated with snow. So much for global warming. Unfortunately, I could not get my camera out in time to take the pictures of the snowfall (which covered the streets and houses in the pictures below). These were all taken a day or two later.

My thanks to Christian for sending along these photographs from Vitacura.

Dr. Cobin’s book, Life in Chile: A Former American’s Guide for Newcomers, is the most comprehensive treatise on Chilean life ever written, designed to help newcomers get settled in Chile. He covers almost ever topic imaginable for immigrants. This knowledge is applied in his valet consulting service, where he guides expatriates through the process of finding a place to live and settle in Chile, helping them glide over the speed bumps that they would otherwise face in getting their visas, setting up businesses, buying real estate, investing in Chilean stocks or gold coins, etc.

I guess global warming has come to Santiago causing this rare phenomenon.
